The 18th annual Feed the Need party took place on October 4 at the Tap Room at Dubsdread. Presented this year by Tom & Donna Page, Feed the Need raised more than $50,000 to help eliminate hunger among local children and their struggling families through the Christian Service Center's Love Pantry in-school food cabinet program. The silent auction was conducted for the first time on a mobile platform, allowing attendees, as well as people across the nation, to place competing bids and win unique items right from their phones. How do you “make a difference” at Feed the Need? This year, proceeds from ticket sales and auction purchases will directly benefit the Love Pantry: Children who are hungry can’t learn. It’s that simple. One of the core programs of the Christian Service Center, the Love Pantry program places an emergency food supply directly into Orange County and Seminole County Public Schools at no cost to the schools. Each Love Pantry school is provided with a cabinet stocked with 23 common food items and 8 basic hygiene items, then, restocked weekly by volunteers throughout the semester. In the wake of devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, Feed the Need is stepping up to help those affected. The Feed the Need Committee, a group of Orlando-area professionals who work together organizing the event, has decided to designate $5,000 of the upcoming event’s proceeds to the Salvation Army of Orlando for hurricane relief to Central Florida residents who are struggling to recover. Held annually since 2001, Feed the Need is a fundraising event supporting the Christian Service Center for Central Florida, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to combating hunger and preventing homelessness in our community.
